Situated in the Andalusia region of Southern Spain, Marbella and the neighbouring resort of Puerto Banus are widely acknowledged as the leading resorts in the Costa del Sol. Famous as a destination of choice for the wealthier tourists of the UK, Ireland and Western Europe, Marbella is widely known as being a playground for the rich and famous over the past 10-15 years.
Without doubt, the market for property in Marbella is characterised by the affluent clientele who live in the region. Indeed, it is this concentration of wealth which has, to an extent, insulated the demand for property in Marbella during the recent economic turmoil, ensuring that the region fared somewhat more successfully than other parts of Spain.
Subsequently, the majority of the property for sale in Marbella tends to be at the luxury end of the market, focusing on high specification apartments and villas. However, the recent economic climate has brought prices to a more realistic level, and today well priced properties can again be found throughout the Marbella region.
Today, although not yet comparable to the heady days of 2000-2008, there is a steadily increasing demand for property in the region, and purchaser confidence is gradually returning to the market. With Marbella maintaining its position as one of Europe's leading tourist destinations, it is likely that this increase in demand for property in Marbella will continue in the long term.
